If you have an outdoor event that will run for several days, clean toilets need to be at the top of your priority list. This way, you can ensure a good experience for your guests when they need to use the restroom.

Proper restroom sanitation can greatly impact your event's success and reputation. However, you may have difficulty keeping portable toilets as clean as they were when they came in. If you're running a multi-day event, these tips should help keep your portable toilets cleaner for longer.

1. Have Enough Toilets

Generally, the number of portable toilets you need for your event depends on how many guests you expect. Also, the length of time your event will run each day is another factor to keep in mind.

For instance, if your event will run for more than 10 hours each day, you'll need two toilets for 50 guests. But since your event will run for more than a day, a safer option would be to have at least three toilets for the 50 guests.

With the extra toilets, fewer people will use one toilet at a time. In doing so, the rate at which you need to clean the toilets in between the events decreases. Thus, fewer people per toilet may keep the restroom cleaner for longer. Additionally, more toilets mean that your guests won't have to queue to use the restrooms while you clean one toilet.

2. Air Out the Toilets Regularly

Most portable toilets close automatically to protect against damage by wind or animals. While this strategy may sometimes work, the foul odors that build up can make the restrooms rather unsanitary. The stench will have nowhere to go due to a lack of proper ventilation inside the toilet.

You can leave the door open at different intervals each day to allow for proper airflow. Even a few minutes of circulation can make a huge difference by removing the strong odors.

Wait for the times when there's less traffic to air out your toilet. You can place an "out of service" sign on the portable washroom during the times when you decide to air it out.

3. Provide Enough Sanitation Supplies

Trash cans, toilet paper, soap, and disinfectants are among the most important supplies you may need to ensure proper sanitation during your multi-day event. Usually, the quantity of supplies depends on the number of guests you expect at your event. For instance, one trash can effectively serves 50 people at your event.

If you have enough trash cans, people are less likely to throw things down the toilets that shouldn't go there. More trash in the waste tank will fill up your toilet more quickly. Besides, some waste items may cause filthy blockages and foul smells in and around the portable toilets.

Similarly, sanitation supplies may encourage your guests to clean up after themselves. Thus, each time someone uses the toilet, they're far likely to leave it in good condition for anyone who might use the restroom after them.

4. Seek Professional Toilet Servicing

You may not need to hire toilet services if your event only runs for one evening. However, for a multi-day event, you'll need professional toilet servicing to help keep the restrooms in good condition.

With the help of a reliable service company, you can focus better on other aspects of your event without worrying about the state of the washrooms. Your provider may draft a toilet cleaning and emptying schedule that works to accommodate your guest usage habits without any inconveniences.
